  The Indian government is preparing another major consolidation in the public banking sector with plans to merge four smaller public sector banks with larger lenders by FY27 , according to government sources. The proposal targets Indian Overseas Bank , Central Bank of India , Bank of India and Bank of Maharashtra for potential merger with anchor banks including State Bank of India , Punjab National Bank and Bank of Baroda ."A record of discussion on the plan will first be taken up by senior officials at the Cabinet level and then will be examined by the PMO ," a government source told Moneycontrol.
