Tata Consultancy Services, India's largest IT services company, continues to face mounting political pressure and regulatory scrutiny over its decision to lay off 12,000 employees globally, as lawmakers and union leaders escalate calls for government intervention to halt what they term "illegal retrenchments."

MP Raja Ram Singh from Bihar's Karakat constituency has written urgent letters to Union Labor Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, demanding immediate action to stop the layoffs across TCS and the broader IT sector. Singh, who serves on the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labor, called the dismissals "part of a wider trend where profit is prioritised at the cost of workers' livelihoods".

The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) has confirmed it is closely monitoring the situation, with officials maintaining regular contact with TCS to understand the rationale behind the workforce reduction. Employee unions have intensified their campaign against the layoffs, with the Nascent Information Technology Employees Senate (NITES) filing formal complaints alleging violations of the Industrial Disputes Act.[1][2]

NITES has accused TCS of forcing employees into "coerced resignations" and bypassing mandatory government approvals required for large-scale retrenchments.
