China's Rare Earth Export Controls Spark Retaliation:-

The market chaos began after China announced expanded export restrictions on rare earth elements on Thursday, requiring foreign companies to obtain special permits for shipping these critical minerals. The new controls target five additional rare earth metals, bringing the total under Chinese restrictions to 12 out of 17 elements.[1][2][3][4]



China dominates approximately 70% of global rare earth mining and over 90% of processing and magnet production. These elements are essential for manufacturing semiconductors, electric vehicles, military weapons systems, and consumer electronics.[4][5][6][7][1]


Trump responded forcefully on Truth Social, calling China's move "extraordinarily aggressive" and accusing Beijing of holding the world "captive" through its rare earth monopoly. "China is becoming very hostile," Trump wrote, announcing that the U.S. would impose "a Tariff of 100% on China, over and above any Tariff that they are currently paying" starting November 1.[5][7][8][9]


The president also threatened export controls on "any and all critical software" from American companies, marking one of the most sweeping trade escalations since the U.S.-China tariff conflict began.[7][10][5]
